Product Care is a non-profit industry organization that develops and manages recycling programs across Canada and in the US. About The Position

The Senior Communications Specialist is responsible for creating, editing, and disseminating on-brand communications materials for Product Care at the corporate level, as well as for all Product Care programs, and client programs. The Senior Communications Specialist is also responsible for project managing initiatives that relate to the communications department.

Responsibilities:

Project Management

  • Coordinate and facilitate communication with other departments – provide communications updates and learn of upcoming projects in other departments.
  • Project manage departmental administration including print and distribution of marketing collateral (e.g. brochures, posters).
  • Review and code departmental invoices to ensure invoices are billed to the correct codes, they match purchase orders, and the budget is on track.
  • Liaise and coordinate projects with agencies, graphic designers, other programs, industry members, regulators, and external partners.
  • Respond to and fulfill requests from other departments in a timely and professional manner (e.g. newsletter requests, website updates, print orders, etc.).
  • Other administrative tasks and projects as required to support departmental and organizational vision and objectives.
  • Identify opportunities for the department to be more strategic, efficient, and effective.
  • Coordinate French translation, where applicable.

 Public Education

  • Contribute to overall marketing and communications strategy to help further the goal of increasing public awareness of recycling programs.
  • Write, edit, and publish content for blog and social media, and respond to comments.
  • Support ad copywriting (print, news, TV, radio, display, etc.).
  • Support updates to written brand standards.
  • Support writing briefs for agencies and other third-party vendors as needed, to ensure projects meet goals and are on-brand both written and visually.
  • Support development of marketing collateral (e.g. brochures, retail posters, etc.).

 Corporate and Internal Communications

  • Support development of annual reports, board meetings, committee meetings, consultation/presentation materials, webinars, member notices, etc.
  • Support internal communications, including contributing to all-staff meetings, employee documents, internal employee communication channels, business cards, etc.
  • Contribute to writing and editing organizational materials, as needed, to ensure on-brand messaging is delivered across platforms to all stakeholders.
  • Support in writing fact sheets, backgrounders, and other key message documents to ensure organizational messages and spokespeople are delivering on-brand messaging.
  • Support in writing, editing, and coordinating publication/dissemination of corporate communications including website updates and newsletters.
  • Keep websites up to date to ensure on-brand, current, and factually correct information is always presented on the websites to all stakeholder groups, including news updates, event schedules, recycling locations, careers postings, etc.
  • Support on consumer and member survey development and analysis.

What You Bring

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills, experience, and qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in marketing, communications, or business administration.
  • Minimum of 4 years in a marketing and/or communications role with a strong focus on multi-stakeholder communications and project management.
  • Mastery of the English language, both written and verbal.
  • Exceptionally organized, detail-oriented, and has high quality standards.
  • Excellent task and time management skills: prioritizing, multitasking, working with deadlines.
  • Initiative, strong work ethic, can execute and gets things done.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to listen, persuade, and collaboratively give feedback.
  • Analytical thinking with very good problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Understanding of complex multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Ability to write for a variety of platforms/media (digital ads, print ads, radio and TV scripts, blogs, annual reports, white papers, fact sheets, backgrounders, web copy, etc.) and stakeholders (consumers, board of directors, industry members, government).
  • Experience working with agencies, printers, and other marketing vendors.
  • Experience developing graphics for social media (Canva or similar).
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Legally able to work in Canada full-time.
