Vancouver, BC, August 7, 2024 – Product Care Recycling is pleased to announce the launch of a new recycling program for non-refillable pressurized fuel containers in Quebec, effective June 30, 2024. This initiative marks an important step in providing Quebec residents with safe and convenient disposal options for these products, which previously lacked a formal, province-wide collection system.
Product Care Recycling, a seasoned stewardship organization, has been designated to manage the new program. With extensive experience in managing hazardous materials across the country including in British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Ontario, Product Care is well-equipped to handle this new initiative in Quebec.
“We are excited to expand our stewardship efforts in Quebec and to work closely with municipalities, parks, and other collection sites to ensure the safe collection and proper recycling of non-refillable pressurized fuel containers,” said Belgacem Kasmi, Director of Quebec Programs. “Our dedicated team in Quebec, which has already been successfully managing a lighting program for many years, is eager to develop this new program and help keep these containers out of landfills.”
Product Care Recycling is in the process of establishing a comprehensive collection and recycling system across the province, collaborating with municipalities, transporters and recyclers to ensure the efficient and environmentally responsible management of these products.
Prior to the launch of this program, there was no formal structure for the collection of these products in Quebec, though some municipalities had independently managed small-scale collection efforts. The introduction of this program by Product Care addresses the demonstrated need for a more convenient and accessible system, ensuring that residents across the province have safe disposal options.
Residents are encouraged to visit Product Care’s website to learn more about the program, find out which products are accepted, and find their nearest recycling location.
