Since 2015, Product Care Recycling has partnered with the community of Bulembu, supplying processed paint that helps restore homes, schools, and community spaces for more than 400 orphaned and vulnerable children in their care.

What is Bulembu?

Bulembu was an abandoned mining town until 2006, when a group of social entrepreneurs purchased the entire property and turned it into a self-sustaining community built around caring for children orphaned by Eswatini’s HIV/AIDS crisis. Today, it runs a school, a health clinic, a bakery, and a country lodge, all designed to fund and support the children who live there.

How the partnership works

Bulembu’s restoration projects require large volumes of paint, and reused paint is both cost-effective and environmentally sound. Only high-quality, water-based latex paint that meets Product Care’s reuse standards is selected. It’s sorted, filtered, stabilized, and prepared at our Delta, BC facility. From there, it’s shipped to Bulembu, where it’s used to restore homes and community spaces.

Reuse closer to home

Bulembu shows what’s possible when paint gets a second life on a large scale. The same idea works in your neighbourhood. Through PaintShare, quality leftover paint is made available for free at participating recycling locations, so community groups, non-profits, and residents can use it for their own projects, like the mural Alex Neff painted in Ridge Meadows.
