Ontario HSP regulation in effect on October 1, 2021: Product Care’s Ontario Industry Stewardship Plan (ISP) programs for paint, pesticides, solvents, and fertilizers will officially end when the new Ontario regulation 449/21 – Hazardous and Special Products (HSP) comes into effect on October 1, 2021.
The HSP regulation requires each “Producer” to meet the obligations of the HSP regulation starting October 1, 2021. The HSP regulation gives producers the option to manage their own obligations or to work with a Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO).
Product Care is registered as a “PRO” in Ontario: Product Care will continue to operate recycling programs to enable Producers to meet their obligations under the HSP regulation including:
- collection system
- management of collected materials
- promotion and education
Product Care has registered with RPRA as a PRO, (registration # 00008937) for paint, pesticide, solvent, fertilizer and pressurized containers.
How to join the Product Care PRO for HSP products:
You will be able to appoint Product Care as your PRO in Ontario by logging into your account at https://ehfreporting.com/ and updating your registration with Product Care by selecting the applicable HSP products, and by accepting the supplementary PRO appointment agreement.
The changes to the registration portal are underway, and you will be notified when the portal modifications are complete.
Producer registration with regulator required by October 31, 2021
The HSP regulation requires producers to register with Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority (RPRA) by October 31, 2021, as well reporting, record keeping and auditing requirements.
When registering as a producer with RPRA please select Product Care as your PRO!
