Ontario Program wind-up extended for MHSW and WEEE

On July 2, 2019, the Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks issued new directions to Ontario Electronic Stewardship for the wind up of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Program and to Stewardship Ontario for the wind up of the Municipal Hazardous or Special Waste (MHSW) Program.

Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)

The Minister amended the timeline to wind up the WEEE program, with a new wind up date of December 31, 2019. Lighting, which is part of the new draft Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE), will commence on January 1, 2020.

Municipal Hazardous and Special Waste (MHSW)

The Minister amended the timeline to wind up the MHSW program, with a new wind up date of June 30, 2021. MHSW includes materials managed by Product Care in Ontario, Paint and Coatings, Pesticides, Solvents and Fertilizers as well as antifreeze, oil containers, oil filters, pressurized containers and single use batteries.  Single use batteries has a separate wind up date of June 30, 2020.
